US help to be sought in dentist bankruptcy case

The Legal Execution Department will instruct the Thai Embassy in the United States to forward to US authorities an absolute receivership order issued by the Central Bankruptcy Court against former Mahidol University dentistry lecturer Dolrudee Jumlongras.

The department is seeking help from US authorities in the matter because Thailand does not have a cross-border insolvency law, department chief Ruenvadee Suwanmongkol said yesterday.
It is the first time the department, in its capacity as the appointed receiver, is proceeding with a court order targeting someone living outside Thailand.
Dolrudee allegedly violated the terms of her state-funded master’s and PhD scholarship and now works at Harvard University in the US.
Related agencies will meet next month to discuss Thailand enacting a cross-border insolvency law, Ruenvadee said.
