Chao Phraya River salinity concerns

The sluice gates along the Chao Phraya River in Pathum Thani province have been shut to prevent massive seawater inflows going further and hampering tap-water production for Bangkok.

The director of the Regional Irrigation Office in Pathum Thani, Chuchat Supawanthanangkul, revealed yesterday that salinity levels in the Chao Phraya River had increased threateningly.
He said the salinity in water around the Sum Lae sluice gate had gone past the standard level of 0.25 grams per litre of water and had reached 0.33 grams.
As all water gates along the Chao Phraya River are closed, boat trips and farming |activities will be affected.
