People in neighbouring countries appear to know Sorrayuth as his shows on Channel 3 can be viewed in many areas. Thai soap operas and music shows are also popular in regional countries.
In Myanmar, the Democratic Voice of Burma TV Channel (DVB) reported details of the ruling, which found Sorrayuth guilty of cheating MCOT out of Bt138 million in advertising revenue.
The DVB report named Sorrayuth’s company Rai-Som and covered the court’s reduced penalty for Sorrayuth and one of his employees who was also charged from 20 years to 13 years and four months in jail. It also referred to the news host’s house in Khao Yai.
In Laos, Mahason Magazine noted the ruling on its Facebook page. Kidork.com also posted details of the ruling for its readers.
In Cambodia, Sothea Saing, a reporter for Rasmei Kampuchea, filed details of the Thai court’s ruling on his Facebook page.
He concluded that Cambodia was not likely to see such punishment as influential, rich or famous people usually managed to evade proper penalties.
