Ban on cliff climbing in Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park without permission

Sarayut Thantian, chief of the national park, stated after an inspection on the islands within the national park area and on Phi Phi Don Island, where he found many tourists climbed the cliffs without proper caretakers and these tourists were brought on cliff climbing tours by unauthorised tour operators.
“We found out that there are nine tour operators that operate cliff climbing tours in the national park area. They rent cliff climbing equipment but they do not have qualified experts to take care of their customers, so the tourists may have accidents after ascending the cliffs,” Sarayut said.
He has ordered these tour operators to stop selling these programmes and have them register to operate the cliff climbing tours with the national park.
“Only authorised tour operators are permitted to operate the tours in the national park area and if any tourist or tour operators are found breaking this rule, both tourist and operator will be arrested,” he said.
