Sopon to take over as top public health official

The Cabinet yesterday approved the appointment of Dr Sopon Mekthon as the new permanent secretary of the Public Health Ministry from October 1 onwards.

An informed source said Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn had proposed Sopon, the current chief of the Disease Control Department, as successor to the ministry’s incumbent permanent secretary Dr Narong Sahametapat who retires at the end of this month.
