CNAC readies third list of corrupt officials

DEPUTY Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said the Centre for National Anti-Corruption (CNAC) would submit a third list of allegedly corrupt civil servants to the government.

He added that the people included in the first two lists were under investigation.
As for the cases of Community Development Department director-general Kwanchai Wongnitikorn and Chusak Tangsiripaiboon, director of Prachin Buri province’s Office of Natural Resources and Environment, who have returned to their posts and are set to retire, Wissanu said the investigation would continue beyond their retirement.
They were brought back at the endorsement of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
Meanwhile, the secretary to the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), Prayong Priyachit, said the third list was being deliberated upon by the PACC, the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the Office of the Auditor-General. He said they were looking to identify public servants found allegedly involved in fraud and not disciplined.
He added that the matter would be discussed at the next meeting of the CNAC – which is presided over by Justice Minister Paiboon Koomchaya – in two weeks before it is forwarded to the government.
Such measures are being taken to increase scrutiny of government agencies where disciplinary action has not been taken, Prayong said, adding that if these measures were standardised and implemented, the use of Article 44, which grants sweeping powers to Prayut, would be unnecessary.
