KHUNYING SOMYING POSHYANANDA, the mother of the Culture Ministry's permanent secretary Dr Apinan Poshyananda, passed away last Saturday at the age of 86 from a heart attack.

She was the daughter of Phraya Pipatanakorn “Chim Poshyananda” and Aon, and was married to Suang Tocharoen.
Apinan, who is known for his contribution to Thai culture and contemporary art, is her only son.
Khunying Somying, who worked at the Bureau of the Royal Household since 1971, accompanied Her Majesty the Queen on her many visits to remote areas and also took care of patients under Royal patronage. Khunying Somying, following Her Majesty’s example, was always ready to help the needy. She also provided scholarships to students in rural schools. 
She was granted several royal decorations including the Fourth Class of the Most Illustrious Order of Chula Chom Klao and the Grand Companion (third class, higher grade) of the Most Illustrious Order of Chula Chom Klao.
Funeral services are being held until Saturday at Wat Makutkasattriyaram in Bangkok.
