We can make reform work, NRC president Thienchay says

National Reform Council president Thienchay Kiranandana said yesterday he was committed to "making the dream come true" in regard to the council's reform mission.

He said the public’s expectations were very high and he would like people to embrace the reform process with positive thinking.
“A dream is a dream. But we will make this dream come true. People across the country must join hands,” he said.
Thienchay admitted that high expectations, like a promise of utopia, worried him. “They want no corruption, no lie after the reform. It is impossible. People still lie but we will catch lies and society will boycott them. Corrupt people will be punished without double standards. This is the reform that I promise,’’ he said.
He said he was confident that the country would be able change and see a return to glory. “If we all want to achieve the same goal, we can. We have done many good things in the history of the country,” he said.
Asked how the country could move forward with reform when political groups and others were threatening to stage campaigns to protect their interests, Thienchay said conflicts had to be traced to the root of problems. “The cause of conflicts we have studied are, for instance, the injustice in accessing and using natural resources,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the NRC has outlined six objectives to achieve in its reform mission: establish a democracy which is suitable for Thai society, ensure a free and fair election, prevent and eradicate corruption, bridge the inequality gap, provide efficient public
service and bring about strict law
enforcement.
