Thai authorities have beefed up security at Narathiwat's Sungai Kolok border checkpoint for fear that Jagtar Singh Tara, an Indian car bomb suspect in the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, is suspected of laying low in Thailand.

Following the alert by Internal Security Operations Command’s 4th Region Front Command, checkpoint head Pol Col Adulkode Beunaesateng instructed officers to watch out for Tara, whose photos were distributed online to immigration officials, the source reported. The suspect, who had tunneled out of a maximum-security prison in India, reportedly fled to Thailand and has been lying low in the southern border area.
