The website, www.elevenmyanmar.com, is updated daily and is divided into 10 sections, ranging from national, business and Asean-related news to tourism and lifestyle coverage. Eleven Media, Myanmar’s largest private publisher, and Nation Multimedia Group’s The Nation will operate the website.
Dr Than Htut Aung, chairman and chief executive officer of Eleven Media, and a team of reporters are in Bangkok to participate in the launch of the website with The Nation, led by editor-in-chief Suthichai Yoon.
“The website will provide information of the progress in reforms, news, events and business activities taking place in Myanmar. The changes for the country have been remarkable over the past year,” Dr Than said.
Members of The Nation’s editorial staff have been working alongside Eleven Media both in Yangon and Bangkok, with an exchange of reporters taking place over the past few months. Eleven Media already operates Myanmar’s biggest English-language mobile SMS (short message service) news and a Facebook page in Burmese, and also publishes four weekly news and sports publications.
Business-related activities inside Myanmar have grown by leaps and bounds after the West started lifting sanctions. In addition, the government has been busy passing new legislation, which includes a more liberal foreign-investment law. The tight press-censorship system has also been dismantled.
Apart from providing news related to Myanmar, Thailand and other Asean nations, elevenmyanmar.com will also provide a video service in the near future thanks to a comprehensive partnership in both editorial and multimedia publishing services. Advertising can be booked via The Nation and/or Eleven Media.
