PM to meet with Google president

Meeting will focus on the tech giant’s planned investment in the country and will be followed by a reception in the Google president’s honour

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is scheduled to discuss collaboration in technology with Ruth Porat, president and chief investment officer of US-based technology firms Alphabet Inc and Google, today (September 30).

According to the Government House, the discussion, which is slated to start at 5pm, will also cover Google’s investment plan for digital infrastructure development in Thailand.

The PM will also host a reception for the president and chief investment officer of Alphabet Inc and Google.

Google earlier announced plans to set up a regional data centre, and develop ethical artificial intelligence (AI), Cloud and other digital infrastructure in Thailand. The plan also covers training to enhance the digital skills of Thailand’s workforce.

The plan is expected to generate over US$4.1 billion (150 billion baht) for the Thai economy by 2030 and create 50,300 jobs.

It is also expected to drive Thailand’s ambitions of becoming a digital economy.
