New system improves container port efficiency

The Customs Department has joined forces with Kerry Siam Seaport to launch technology that can reduce the delivery time of a container at the port from 2 minutes down to 10 seconds, in order to support more than 100,000 export containers per month.

This is the first private port in Thailand to adopt the automated matching system via the National Single Window (NSW) protocol.
Chuchai Udompote, principle advisor of development at Customs Incentive System, said that the NSW linked electronic information between agencies related to the import and export process. This would facilitate the electronic verification process for licences and certificates before the release of cargo.
This system will function 24 hours a day, allowing the exchange of information without requiring physical travel between agencies.
The agreement involves the Laem Chabang Port Customs Bureau and Kerry Siam Seaport Ltd.
Chuchai said its objectives were to improve the effectiveness of export control systems and solve workflow problems that can cause delays.
