L’Oreal’s green distribution centre aims to ‘share beauty’ with all

L’Oreal Thailand’s green distribution centre at TPARK Bangna is in step with the group’s mission to reduce its environmental footprint by 60 per cent.

As part of a sustainability commitment for 2020, it is Asia’s first LEED-certified Silver Level green distribution centre.
The company’s managing director Nathalie Gerschtein Keraudy said, “The opening of our new green distribution centre truly underscores our commitment to sustainability, to improve the way we do business across our value chain.
“With this new distribution centre, we are driving our “Sharing Beauty With All” vision under the pillar of ‘Producing Sustainably’, by reducing our environmental footprint while bringing beauty to more new consumers.”
This new green distribution centre will support L’Oreal Group’s mission in reducing the environmental footprint by 60 percent from the 2005 baseline. The distribution centre was built up in collaboration with TPARK, a leading provider of serviced rental factories, and it has received a Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certificate. The LEED rating system is devised by the United States Green Building Council to evaluate the environmental performance of sustainable buildings.
The distribution centre in Thailand is the first LEED-certified Silver Level of L’Oreal Group in Asia. The centre, covering 21,036 square metres of indoor space, will reduce environmental footprint compared to conventional buildings:
l43 per cent energy saving with low lighting power density of 0.6 watt per square foot - almost half the conventional standard of 1 watt per square foot
l40 per cent less indoor water consumption
l60 per cent less water usage of landscape by using plants that require least water and soil surface mulching
lImproved indoor air quality and increased natural airflow
The environmental footprint reduction started with the initial construction of the facility. More than 30 per cent of materials used were recycled and local-based materials, reusing up to 75 per cent of their total waste during construction.
Apart from emphasising its sustainability commitment, the new green distribution centre is set to be one of L’Oreal Thailand’s five key focus areas - distribution channel growth - to support its robust expansion in the beauty market and help accelerate further business growth in Thailand.
L’Oreal Thailand had an impressive performance in 2016 which grew more than twice the market from its leadership in facial skincare segment and accelerated growth in the makeup segment. L’Oreal Thailand sold 123 million product items across all categories of its 21 brands.
“We continue our strong performance year-on-year and remain the fastest-growing beauty company in the country and a leader in facial skincare market. With NYX, an accessible and high-quality professional makeup brand from the United States, added to L’Oreal Thailand’s brand portfolio last year, along with our other strong international brands, we are confident we will take our place at the top of the beauty market in the near future”, Nathalie Gerschtein Keraudy added.
The new green distribution centre is located at TPARK Bangna. It will be the warehouse for L’Oreal Thailand’s products across four divisions including Consumer Products Division, L’Oreal Luxe Division, Professional Products Division, and Active Cosmetic Division with over 10,000 SKUs.
