‘ASIAN SIDE OF THE DOC’ DOCUMENTARY EVENT TO HIT BANGKOK

Thailand has been chosen to host “Asian Side of the Doc” for the first time.
The annual four-day event will showcase Thailand as a new regional marketplace for documentary film trading. It is expected to enhance opportunities for Thai documentary-film production houses to enter the world market.
Asian Side of the Doc Bangkok will be held from October 31 to November 3 at the Avani Riverside Hotel, and will bring together film producers, distributors and investors in the documentary-film business from more than 40 countries.
Stephane Lambert, managing director of Wishtrend Thailand Co, an official representative, partner and main sponsor of the event, said documentaries were very important media across the world. Thailand has a lot of capable documentary producers and young talents, but there is still a weakness in story telling.
At the event, there will be a trading floor for buying and selling documentary work through one-on-one meetings, in-depth analyses, workshops, project pitches and expert guidance on how to create a social marketing network.

TAT OPENS PRAGUE OFFICE

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has opened a new office in Prague to tap the growing potential from emerging markets in the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries.
The office was opened jointly by TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn, Kalin Sarasin, chairman of the board of TAT, and Narong Sasitorn, Thai ambassador to the Czech Republic.
It is the eighth TAT office in Europe and the 27th abroad.
To be headed by Wiyada Srirangkul, the office will be responsible for promoting tourism from the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine.
Between 2012 to 2015, visitors from Central Europe grew at an annual average growth rate of 12.85 per cent, from about 203,540 to 342,900. The Czech Republic rose from 35,909 in 2014 to almost 38,998 in 2015, an increase of 8.6 per cent. “In 2016, we are projecting 379,000 visitors from this region overall. Our key target markets will be first-time visitors,” Yuthasak said.
