JCB aims to grow cardholder base

JCB International, a global payment brand based in Japan, is initiating attractive promotions and services to increase the number of holders of its Platinum Cards in Thailand to 1 million within a few years.

Naoya Michishima, managing director of JCB International (Thailand), said the company last year shifted its strategy to expand the cardholder base and strengthened its relationship with existing cardholders by offering privileges and services, in particular special deals through partnerships with Japan-related companies.
At present, the JCB Platinum Card is issued through Krungthai Card (KTC), Aeon Thana Sinsap (Thailand) and Krungsri Credit Card.
The number of cards and spending volume last year grew by more than 20 per cent compared with 2014.
To expand the target segment, JCB recently launched its Platinum Card, which provided differentiated services.
“The basic concept for this Platinum service is that JCB acts as a bridge between Thailand |and Japan through providing exclusive services in Thailand and Japan.
“The number of |Thai tourists to Japan is increasing year by year, and is estimated to reach 1 million this |year. JCB originated from Japan, so we would like to offer |many privileges and services related with Japan,” Michishima said.
This year, JCB plans to focus on developing more services for cardholders. Japan continues to be a popular destination for Thais, and Japanese restaurants and culture in Thailand are increasingly popular. JCB aims to expand its cardholder base by offering exclusive deals related to Japan to JCB Platinum Card holders.
“This year, we have upgraded the privileges for JCB Platinum Card holders and aim to expand our customer base to cover a wider group. We’ve joined hands with partners to offer special privileges to those who like to travel in Japan and enjoy the Japanese lifestyle, both in Thailand and in Japan. We are confident that this service will deliver satisfaction to JCB Platinum Card holders in Thailand,” he said.
“Through providing those attractive services, JCB aims to position itself as the ‘most beneficial payment brand’ and expand the number of cards to 1 million in the near future.”
