Along the coastline spanning over 200 kilometres from Hua Hin Beach to Bangsaphan Noi district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, waves 2-4 metres high have been observed.
The high waves have led to seawater overflowing onto certain sections of the beachfront road, causing flooding and disrupting traffic.
Businesses and restaurants along the beach area have had to temporarily close because of the unexpected inundation.
The road serves as a pedestrian area on Friday and Saturday evenings, making it a popular spot for tourists and the general public. The weather phenomenon has piqued the curiosity of both tourists and the locals, with many taking photographs and videos.
At some locations, authorities have piled up sandbags to create a barrier against the sea waves crashing into the beach area and causing damage.
Additionally, warnings have been issued to the residents along the coastal areas to be vigilant about the dangers posed by the strong winds and sea waves that may continue to surge towards the shore during this period.
The high waves have forced more than 100 small fishing boats along the coast to seek shelter and avoid the waves. Military personnel have been mobilised to assist in towing the distressed fishing boats to the shore.
Cha-am Beach in Phetchaburi has also suffered damage, causing an impact on tourism.
Waves 3-4 metres high surged towards the coastline along a kilometre-long stretch of the beach. In addition, large quantities of marine garbage have also washed ashore.
The authorities have issued public announcements advising tourists against swimming in the water during the next 3-4 days due to the hazardous conditions.
More than 200 local fishing boats have anchored to avoid the strong waves.
