Tree planting and reception: Marking 190 years of US-Thai diplomacy
The American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (AMCHAM) collaborated with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the US Embassy to celebrate 190 years of US-Thai diplomatic relations at Suan Mokkh Bangkok. The event marked an eco-friendly commitment to support the Bangkok Governors' One Million Trees project.
AMCHAM President Ornkanya (Mook) Pibuldham congratulated the Bangkok Governor for planting 700,000 trees within the year. She said, "AMCHAM's priority is a safe and healthy environment, planting trees and other activities with the BMA align with our mission to give back to the community." She underscored the active community involvement of AMCHAM members, including their volunteering work at the Saturday School program, donations of over 280 laptops to the Sustainable Digital Classroom, and readiness to support the BMA's healthcare centre through training programs.
Robert Godec, US Ambassador to Thailand acknowledged the long-standing diplomatic relationship and the 60th anniversary of the sister-cities partnership between two capitals, Bangkok, and Washington D.C. He stressed that the tree planting activity signifies a step in the fight against climate change and improving the lives of people in Thailand.
Nitivadee Manitkul, Ambassador Attache to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the enduring Thai-US relationship, dating back to the 1833 Treaty of Amity and Commerce. She emphasised that just like a tree, our partnership has branched out into diverse collaborations, providing shade, And bearing fruit in the form of economic, peace, and security benefits. This enduring bond is built on the strong people-to-people connections that withstand the test of time.
