This year’s prolonged Golden Week, spanning April 29 to May 6 offers Japanese travellers an extended window of travel possibilities.
Thailand is the only Southeast Asian destination in the top three, and is more searched than Taiwan (#3), the United States (#4) and Vietnam (#5).
Agoda insights show Thailand’s popularity among Japanese travellers is increasing, with ‘the land of smiles’ showing a 60% increase in searches between January and mid-March of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year. This signals a growing fascination with Thailand's varied attractions and rich culture.
Diving deeper into the preferences of Japanese travellers, Agoda sees new entries among top destination choices for Japanese travellers within Thailand. While perennial favourites like Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Koh Samui retain their allure in the top five respectively, this year sees Chonburi (#9) and Khao Lak (#10) making their mark as emerging destinations, a testament to Japan's travellers' growing appetite for Thailand's multifaceted experiences.
Pierre Honne, Senior Country Director, Thailand at Agoda said, “Japanese travellers are exploring more of Thailand, extending trips beyond its traditional hotspots like Bangkok and Pattaya, exploring more of Chonburi and the coastline of Khao Lak. Agoda’s travel platform offers an array of accommodations, flights, and activities to cater to the dynamic travel preferences of Japanese travellers.”
Agoda's embrace of diverse travel options invites travellers to book the best deals on hotels, flights, and engaging activities on one platform—tailor-made for those looking to craft a memorable Golden Week escapade.
