Jariyathorn Suhu, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand office in Loei, said that after Monday (July 31) was added to the public holidays to make a six-day-long break, hotels in the northern province were booked up at short notice.
He said hotels in popular tourist spots, such as Chiang Khan walking street were 100% booked up during the six-day period, while others were up to 80% booked.
These include hotels and resorts near the Skywalk and Thai Cultural Village in Chiang Khan district, Phrathat Sri Song Rak (a stupa in honour of two loves) in Dan Sai district, Wat Somdej Phu Ruea Ming Muang, Phu Ruea National Park, Phu Ruea highland farming site in Phu Ruea district, Phu Suan Sai National Park in Na Haew district and Bor Bid National Park in Muang district.
He said tourists began flocking to the province since Friday, the first day of the long weekend.
The director added that souvenir shops and restaurants were also doing well during the break.
