Jurin sends get-well messages as Prayut hospitalised with swollen hand

SUNDAY, MARCH 05, 2023

Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanawisit joined other well-wishers on Saturday to wish Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha a speedy recovery.

Prayut was admitted to Phramongkutklao Hospital for a night on Saturday so doctors could observe the inflammation in his right hand, which apparently worsened after a visit to Ayutthaya.

Reports indicate that the inflammation may have been caused by pseudogout, a condition that is similar to gout but not caused by a surge in uric acid in the blood.

Meanwhile, speaking to the press at Hat Yai Airport in Songkhla, Jurin said he had sent Prayut “get well” messages over the phone, adding “I wish the PM recovers soon”.

A close aide said Prayut had been prescribed antibiotics and advised to take a break. The prime minister has not cancelled any planned visits to the provinces over the next two weeks, but may revise his schedule, the source added.

Prayut is expected to be the sole prime ministerial candidate of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart (United Thai Nation) Party in the upcoming general election.

He travelled to many places across the country on official trips and on the campaign trail recently. He campaigned with other key figures of the one-year-old party in many provinces, including Chumphon and Nakhon Ratchasima.

Prayut hinted recently that he will dissolve the House of Representatives before its four-year term ends on March 23 so the next election can be held on May 7 as has been tentatively set by the Election Commission. Political observers expect the House to be dissolved by mid this month.
