According to the Secretariat of the Prime Minister's letter to the Transport Ministry and relevant agencies, the communication followed Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin's suggestion during the Cabinet meeting on April 2.
The suggestion aims to ensure efficiency in the port development, which is under the Port Authority of Thailand's supervision, the letter said, adding that it is also in line with the national agenda on dealing with air pollution.
The Transport Ministry and relevant agencies have been ordered to:
• Accelerate the study on the feasibility of moving Bangkok Port, also known as Khlong Toei Port, away from the capital, covering the relocation of nearby oil silos.
• Prepare a plan to develop the Bangkok Port area to tackle issues such as the slum community, traffic jams and air pollution.
"The development should be clear, appropriate and complete as soon as possible based on benefits of Bangkokians," the letter said, adding that relevant agencies must submit progress to the prime minister.
