The cleanup of the roads to reopen them to traffic was reported to the BMA’s Songkran situation monitoring centre, headed by Chatree Watanakhejorn, during a meeting at the BMA City Hall at 9.30am on Tuesday.
The centre was informed that the road cleanup continued until morning, including the tourist-destination Khao San Road.
On the Songkran situation on Monday, the centre was informed that there were four road accidents, killing three and injuring two.
Chatree said that during the past five days, a total of 17 road accidents occurred on Bangkok streets, killing 17 people and injuring 18 others.
During the five-day period, there were 124 reports of fires in Bangkok. On Monday alone 32 fires occurred, mostly roadside grass fires. There was only one building fire and no one was killed or injured, Chatree said.
He said people started returning to Bangkok on Tuesday, so the BMA deployed staff at four bus terminals to facilitate arriving passengers.
