Heavy rain in the South, scattered showers across the nation

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2023

Light showers and cool temperatures in the morning are forecast for the lower north, northeast, east and central regions including Bangkok today (November 27).

Moderate-high-pressure system or cool air mass combines with easterly winds carrying moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf towards the upper part of Thailand.

A low-pressure system meanwhile is moving towards the Malacca Strait and is expected to move further into the Andaman Sea over the next few days bringing heavy to very heavy rain to some areas of the south.

The wind will whip up waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand to 2-3 metres, more in thunderstorms, the upper Gulf of Thailand will see wave height of 1-2 metres while waves in the Andaman Sea will reach 1 metre, higher in storms.

Residents of the lower southern region should be aware of dangers caused by heavy rain which may lead to sudden flooding and rapid river runoff, especially in foothill areas and in valleys. Boat owners are advised to navigate with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.
