Heavy rains forecast for the South, cool morning in other regions

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2023

The North, Northeast and Central regions will wake up to a cool morning on Sunday but winds and heavy rains are forecast for the South, the Thailand Meteorological Department said.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours indicates a high-pressure system and a cool air mass are moderately covering the upper part of Thailand and the South China Sea. This is causing winds from the east to bring moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand to cover the upper part of Thailand, the department said.

This weather pattern will maintain the cool mornings, with some rain in the lower northern, northeastern and central regions, including Bangkok and its suburbs, as well as the eastern region. Citizens in these areas are advised to take care of their health due to rapidly changing weather conditions.

The northeastern monsoon covering the lower Gulf of Thailand and the lower southern region is relatively strong. Combined with a low-pressure system over the coastal areas of Malaysia, it was likely to move through the lower southern region and Malaysia towards the lower Andaman Sea on November 26-27. This scenario would bring heavy rain to the lower southern region, the department said.

Wind waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand are relatively strong, with waves 2-3 metres high, or higher in areas with thunderstorms. Waves 1-2 metres high, or higher in areas with thunderstorms are expected in the upper Gulf of Thailand.

The Andaman Sea will have waves about a metre high, or higher in areas with thunderstorms.

Residents in the lower southern region are advised to beware of flash floods. Vessel operators should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in areas during thunderstorms, the department said.
