These conditions are brought by the high-pressure system from China extending to upper Thailand, and the easterly and the northeasterly winds prevailing over the Gulf, the South and the Andaman Sea.
People should beware of the severe conditions that may cause flash floods and overflows, especially along foothills near waterways and lowlands. All transport should use more caution, the department warned.
For sea conditions, waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf could rise to 2 metres in height and higher in thundershowers. All ships should proceed with caution and keep away from stormy areas.
Areas to be affected by thundershowers are as follows:
North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun.
Northeast: Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani.
Central: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Suphanburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Songkhram, Samut Sakhon and Bangkok metropolitan area.
East: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Trat.
South: Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Krabi and Trang.
