The Thai Bankers Association (TBA) said on Saturday that the service provider, National ITMX (Interbank Transaction Management and Exchange) will shut down PromptPay from 2am to 2.30am to fix some bugs. The aim is to make the service more efficient and secure.
“Customers will not be able to transfer cash or perform any financial transactions by scanning the quick response [QR] code during this period,” TBA said.
PromptPay is available via many major banks, though its shutdown will not affect their automatic teller machines (ATMs), cash deposit machines (CDMs) or banking services via convenience stores, TBA said.
“Customers are urged to plan their transactions in advance,” it said, adding that PromptPay users can contact banks for more information.
PromptPay currently has some 67 million users since it was launched in January 2017.
More than 60 million baht worth of transactions were completed via PromptPay in February, and this is expected to grow further. PromptPay is popular among online shoppers and people who do not like carrying cash.
