Several retail giants have launched events and campaigns to offer shopping, dining and travelling experiences for customers as part of the Songkran celebrations.

Apart from school breaks and the Songkran festival, an influx of foreign tourists is expected in the second quarter.

Central Pattana is spending 600 million baht to launch its campaign “Summer Wonderfest 2024”, which allows customers to enjoy shopping, dining and travelling experiences until May 19 this year.

The retail giant aims to promote its shopping malls nationwide as landmarks to stimulate people's spending during the long holiday, said Nattakit Tangpoonsinthana, chief marketing officer of Central Patana.

"The company aims to hold 1,000 events and attract 3,000 famous brands, as well as offer promotional activities during this period," he said.

Having a similar goal to Central Pattana, The Mall Group is spending 220 million baht to launch a campaign “Summer-Cation 2024” from Monday until April 30 to stimulate spending by Thai and foreign consumers.

The campaign offers up to 70% discount on a variety of products for the summer season. The company expects sales to hit 5.4 billion baht, especially of fashion items, electrical appliances and sunscreen.

Apart from the Songkran festival, the retail industry also gained positive sentiment from the government's economic stimulus policies, said Voralak Tulaphorn, chief marketing officer at The Mall Group.

"Many people are expected to visit shopping malls after the renovation of The Mall Life Stores in the Bang Kapi and Bang Khae neighbourhoods," she said.

With collaboration from government and private agencies, Iconsiam has invested over 60 million baht to launch "Thaiconic Songkran Celebration 2024" from April 10 to 21.

"The event is expected to draw at least 1.5 million Thai and foreign visitors to the mall, resulting in a more than 50% increase in cash flow," said mall managing director Supoj Chaiwatsirikul.

He added that the event could stimulate the economy in the Khlong San district as well.
