The minister engaged with the fans, some of whom were Malaysian and Chinese, and promised to help them interact with the two heartthrobs who were scheduled to hold a press conference at the ministry later in the day. Some fans had been waiting since 6am.
Phakphum "Mile" Romsaithong and Nattawin "Apo" Wattanagitiphat are scheduled to meet the press at 6pm on Wednesday along with the Commerce Ministry and film and TV series production firm, Be On Cloud.
The press will be told about how the popularity of the “boys’ love” series and films will be used to promote Thai products and services, which in turn will help stimulate the economy.
The boys’ love genre depicts romantic relationships between male characters, and Thai films and TV series in this genre have gained a strong international following.
The genre, also known as “Y series” in Thailand, is derived from the Japanese term “yaoi” – a type of fiction that originated in Japan featuring homoerotic relationships between male characters.
Those who are interested can watch the press conference online via the Commerce Ministry or Be On Cloud’s Facebook page.
