Speaking after attending Monday’s event to unveil MP candidates at UTN headquarters in Bangkok, Prayut said the party aimed to come top in the battle for the 500-member House of Representatives.
Prayut, who is the UTN’s sole candidate for prime minister, was at party headquarters on Ari Soi 5 to see MP candidates for the South and Central regions unveiled.
Also attending the event were Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin, PM's Office Minister Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri and government deputy spokeswoman Tipanan Sirichana.
"UTN will do the best for Thailand and the public, and will drive the country forward," Prayut said.
He also thanked UTN leader Peeraphan Salirathaviphak and secretary-general Akanat Promphan for inviting him to the event.
He said UTN enjoyed mutual trust between members that would help drive the country towards sustainable development.
"We must work together with love and unity to ensure the party gains the confidence of the public," he said.
He added that UTN would not argue with others as “Thailand belongs to all Thais”.
"We want to be number one in the contest for 500 MP seats," he added.
On Wednesday, Prayut will preside over UTN's merit-making ceremony and event to unveil its remaining 40 MP candidates.
The 500-seat House of Representatives will be made up of 400 constituency MPs and 100 party-list MPs. The election is tentatively set for May 7.
