The group, which was led by former red-shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan and lawyer Nitithorn Lamlua, announced that it would start its activity called “Stop the 3 Ps and military coup: Restarting Thailand” at 5pm. The activity will include music performances and speeches on stage.
The 3Ps refer to General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Deputy PM General Prawit Wongsuwan, and Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda, whose nickname is Pok.
Police officers from Lumpini have been deployed around the area to monitor the situation and advise rally participants not to block traffic.
A news source said that the Melting Pot Group has asked the authorities to use the area at the Ratchaprasong intersection from 5pm until midnight on Friday.
