A popular beach on the southern island of Wua Ta Lap in Surat Thani remained closed to tourists on Saturday after suffering storm damage.

Mu Koh Ang Thong National Park authorities announced Ao Kao beach would be off-limits following the Thai Meteorological Department’s warning of summer storms on Friday.

The beach and other areas in the park were closed on Friday over concern that high winds and heavy rain were a risk to tourist activities and destinations.

Na Thub and Tham Rang beaches on Koh Mae Koh, and Sam Sao beach on Koh Sam Sao were allowed to open as normal on Saturday after inspections found only minor storm damage.

However, park officials said Ao Ka beach on Koh Wua Ta Lap will need time to recover from the extreme weather event.
