SEOUL DESIGN FESTIVAL

The Seoul Design Festival began in 2002. Since its inception, the festival has aimed at presenting the future of design by showcasing the work of internationally renowned and up-and-coming designers from both home and abroad. The Seoul Design Festival venue is located in COEX, which is directly connected to Exits 5 and 6 of Samseong Station (Subway Line 2).
SINGAPORE MARATHON
December 5 to 6, Singapore
Singapore becomes a playground for those on the hoof as the city hosts its annual marathon. The race attracts both serious and fun runners plus spectators who come to embrace the nice mix of sport and a carnival atmosphere. The route snakes round the city so check your traffic advisory for any road closures before going around the city on that date.
PUNAKHA DROMCHE FESTIVAL
February 12 to 16, Bhutan
Punakha Dromche festival is the only festival with a procession that re-enacts the war against the Tibetans in the 17th century. Dromche or festivals generally include dances and this festival is dedicated to Yeshe Gompo (Mahakala) or Palden Lhamo, the two main protective deities of Drukpas (Bhutanese). Punakha Dromche take place in the first month of the lunar year and ends with “Serda”, a magnificent procession re-enacting an episode of the war. Dancers wear spectacular costumes made of yellow silk or rich brocade, often decorated with ornaments of carved bone.
RHYTHM AND VINES
December 29 to 31, Gisborne, New Zealand
The Kiwis mix wine, music and fireworks at the annual Rhythm and Vines as they work up to celebrating New Year’s Eve. The festival takes place at Waiohika Estate in Gisborne – a sunny seaside town that’s the first place in the world to see the sun each day. Visit www.RhythmAndVines.co.nz.
GREAT CHRISTMAS PUDDING RACE
December 5, London, England
The Great Christmas Pudding Race is a classic example of English eccentricity with good heart. Runners in fancy dress take part in the race around Covent Garden’s West Piazza to raise funds for Cancer Research. Teams negotiate a challenging obstacle course while carefully balancing a Christmas pudding on a tray.
