Touring in Thon Buri
Small historians and big fans of historical buildings can sign up for the Thon Buri historical walk on July 23. Organised by architect and storyteller Nut Chol, the day trip takes participants on a tour of most of Thon Buri’s historical landmarks and off-the-tourist-track spots – including The Royal Thai Dockyard Museum, Wat Arun, Thon Buri Palace and the riverside neighbourhood along the west side of Chao Phraya River. The trip is conducted in Thai, and costs Bt700 per person. Bookings must be made by Friday. Call (081) 343 4261 to get the details.
Tiptoe through the tulips
Siam Tulips, the wild flower also known as dok krajiao, are now in full bloom at Sai Thong and Pa Hin Ngam National Parks in Chaiyaphum province. Both parks share a reputation for producing endless fields of Siam tulips from middle of June to late August.
Fresh mornings, clear skies and lots of opportunities for easy strolls make both parks ideal for walking holiday. You’re advised to avoid Pa Hin Ngam National Park on the weekend as that’s when the tourists flock there.
A proud heritage
Thai AirAsia continued its search for youth ambassadors during the Candle Festival and Buddhist Lent Ceremony in Ubon Ratchathani, joining with the Ministry of Culture and National Artist Banyen Rakkaen in organising the first ever folk performance training camp under the “Air Travel to Preserve Art” project. A total of 20 young folk singers attended the three-day, two-night camp, and learnt the art of Isaan folk music from the national artist. The young musicians and singers then performed at the province’s annual Buddhist Lent Candle Procession.
