Mr. Teerawut Supapunpinyo, Managing Director of Brother Commercial (Thailand) Limited, revealed that Brother has a strong belief and engagement in activities that give back to society and the environment, known as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The company has a guiding principle for driving CSR initiatives, with a particular focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). "For E – Environmental and S – Social, Brother acknowledges diversity and the current changes, which is the essence of CSR that focuses on the needs of the community. It is not about what Brother wants to do but understanding the community's needs. And G – Governance, our continuous CSR activities aim to create sustainability, and the activities we undertake aim to raise awareness, particularly among the younger generation, about societal assistance. We also aim to share Brother's experiences in social assistance with the younger generation. Moreover, we also support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of Good Health & Wellbeing, with the goal of promoting quality of life and well-being, and Reduce Inequality, ensuring that patients have a quality of life or live a life as normal as possible, even with difficulties or limitations. We understand and are ready to assist them in accessing treatment like anyone else."
Mr. Teerawut added that the "Brother Beat Cancer Run 2024: Run Together, Fight Together" event is a part of the company's CSR activities aimed at assisting cancer patients who lack financial resources for treatment. This initiative is carried out under the framework of the Ramathibodi Cancer Foundation for Hematologic Oncology in adults at Ramathibodi Hospital. It aligns with the company's commitment to community-based activities, which is one of the principles of conducting business under the Global Charter of the Brother Group. This falls under the "Golden Ring" project of Brother's headquarters in Japan. "We use the term 'Beat' to signify that cancer patients need to beat the disease. For runners, it means beating challenges to maintain health. Particularly special this year is the participation of the PROXIE artist group, who are brand presenters for Brother. Their involvement aims to reach the younger generation, serving as a communication channel to promote the project. We want to convey positive activities to the younger generation, encouraging them to care for themselves and people around them, such as doing physical exercise for good health. Because their future is important for society. Also, they will find happiness in being a part of an initiative that helps cancer patients in need."
Mr. Pornphak Upaisilpsathaporn, General Manager of Finance and Administration at Brother Commercial (Thailand) Limited, a key figure in organizing this event, revealed that "Brother has been organizing the Brother Beat Cancer Run project for 10 years consecutively, aiming to raise funds for cancer patients, particularly in the Hematology department, such as leukemia patients. The goal is also to promote the health of participants in the run. It is known that cancer patients need financial resources for treatment, especially when using targeted therapy medications that are not covered in the national drug list. Having a fund can significantly increase the chances of patients accessing necessary medications."
Mr. Pornphak further stated that the Beat Cancer Run event is unique as it offers 3 distances: 6 km, 12 km, and 24 km. Additionally, Brother emphasizes inclusivity, welcoming participants from all walks of life, regardless of gender, age, or LGBTQ status. Over the past 9 years, since the inception of the project until now, the initiative has benefited a total of 714 patients, with donations exceeding 13 million Baht. As continuous treatment is essential, ongoing assistance is crucial. The funds raised contribute to continuous treatment, facilitating access to medication and surgeries, such as bone marrow transplants, helping patients receive consistent care and reducing treatment limitations due to financial constraints. This year's event has received support from various business partners, including VSTECS, TVS, and Rasa Tower.
"Another special feature this year is the collaboration with PAINTERBEL, an illustrator with numerous international works, to design the shirts that reflect the Brother brand. These shirts are suitable for all age groups and various businesses. What's even more special is that those who have already registered for the standard set are entitled to purchase the Limited Edition shirt, with only 200 available." Mr. Pornphak mentioned.
Miss Rasiyakorn Tantawanich, General Manager of Customer Service at Brother Commercial (Thailand) Limited, added that "The fact that Brother has been organizing this event for 10 years consecutively and plans to continue in the future is because we have witnessed a tremendous response. More participants from the public, partners, and employees join every year, enabling us to receive increased donations. This allows us to contribute the funds to Ramathibodi Hospital, aiding underprivileged cancer patients and providing them with greater opportunities to access essential medications for treatment."
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suporn Chuncharunee, Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, disclosed that "Hematologic cancers can be broadly categorized into 2 main groups: lymphoid malignancies, including lymphoma and leukemia, and myeloid malignancies, such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myeloma. In Thailand, a significant health challenge that is currently being addressed is the access to targeted therapies, especially for lymphoid malignancies. We are grateful for the support from the Brother Beat Cancer Run project entering its 10th year."
Assoc. Prof. Dr.Pimjai Nipharak, Head of the Hematology Department at the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, emphasized that "The treatment for these diseases has shifted towards targeted therapies, combined with chemotherapy. Access to targeted therapies is crucial, and the assistance we have received from this project for the past 10 years has significantly increased the chances of providing suitable treatment options for each patient. This support helps mitigate financial constraints and contributes to improving the quality of life for cancer patients."
Regarding the T-shirt design for this event, Setthapon Korvanichkul, also known as PAINTERBEL, an illustrator, shared that "The theme for this year's artwork is to make everyone feel like a force that contributes happiness and positive energy to those participating in the event. It's like small energy sources from many individuals coming together and transforming into a powerful force that helps cancer patients at Ramathibodi Hospital. It's not just about the image I designed; it represents everything I want to convey. In the picture, it's like a message sent from the giver to the receiver, providing positive encouragement to everyone and empowering them. When people see this image, society will become more livable."
The members of PROXIE, the brand ambassadors for Brother, expressed their readiness to be a source of encouragement for cancer patients. They conveyed a message of support, assuring everyone facing true despair that they are ready to stand by, providing positive energy. They encouraged individuals to believe that there are people who love and support them, ready to be a constant source of encouragement. The message emphasized the commitment to face and overcome challenges together, even on seemingly difficult paths, as long as one does not give up or lose hope.
