Thailand and Brunei Darussalam established diplomatic relations in 1984. The official visit by the Sultan will mark the celebration of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Sultan had last visited Thailand 12 years ago.

Chai said the visit would help expand cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, halal industry, tourism, digital economy and people-to-people ties. Both sides also expected to discuss regional cooperation and exchange views on international issues.
