Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, as chairman of the ONWR board, said on Wednesday (July 22) that he has come up with a direct water-management plan for many areas by providing funds to dig wells to store rainwater for use during droughts.
At a meeting on Wednesday, 27,275 water projects proposed by 30 divisions from 10 ministries were approved under a budget of Bt100 billion. The meeting also tasked an agency with reviewing 557 water projects planned for 2023 and speed up ongoing projects in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), such as production of fresh water from seawater, wells for industrial use and boosting the efficiency of reservoirs.
The meeting also approved three water projects to help solve the annual water shortage problem in Phuket province. The projects also include a tropical meteorological integration plan to boost the efficiency and accuracy of weather forecasts.
