On Sunday morning (May 19), the European Space Agency (ESA) shared a video on X, captured by its “fireball camera”, describing the sighting as a “stunning meteor” over Caceres, near the Portuguese border.

However, ESA later identified the object as a “small piece of a comet”, estimating it flew over Spain and Portugal at 45km per second before burning up over the Atlantic.
