Sawang Chanpram emerged with four out of Thailand’s 29 gold medals at the week-long championships, which finished on Sunday in Clark City, Philippines.
Making their Asia Masters debut, Thai seniors achieved a commendable sixth in the medal ranking, behind top-place India (70 golds), followed by Japan, Philippines, China, and Malaysia.
Sawang, the oldest participant, showcased remarkable prowess in the weight throw, discus throw, 100-metre run, and javelin, scoring victories in all four competitions.
Thailand’s seniors ended the competition with 29 golds, 22 silvers, and 16 bronze medals.
Somsanga Boonnok also secured four gold medals, while Laksana Pralubruksa, Siripan Chanpram (Sawang's daughter) and Wi-chit Buathong each earned three golds.
Thailand Masters Athletics Association president Witwat Vikrantanorat expressed satisfaction that the team had surpassed its target of 20 gold medals. He commended the athletes for their dedication and determination throughout the competition.
The event featured participants from Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Mongolia, Malaysia, India, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
The 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championships is due to take place in Indonesia in 2025.
