PTT Exploration and Production recently headed south with 70 students in tow for the second in its four camp activities under the 4th PTTEP Teenergy project, which this year have the theme “Step Up to Conservation”.

The 70 high-schoolers were selected from 773 applicants from 14 provinces in Southern Thailand to join the camp, participate in the workshop and learn first-hand about marine resources conservation. The activity was recently held at General Prem Tinsulanonda Historical Park in Songkhla province.

Organised in collaboration with the Office of the Basic Education Commission, Department of Environmental Quality and the Virtuous Youth Foundation, the 4th PTTEP Teenergy activity provided an opportunity for young Thais to learn about natural resources and environment conservation including mangrove ecosystem, marine conservation and crab hatchery and release process through a number of hands-on activities. Participants were also invited to visit the Petroleum Development Support Base, a logistic centre of PTTEP in Songkhla, which supports the oil and gas industry in the Gulf of Thailand.

Apart from learning about marine resources, the students also initiated projects for natural resources and environmental conservation. Ten outstanding initiatives will receive Bt100,000 funding from PTTEP to implement the projects at their schools and communities.

“The 4th PTTEP Teenergy hosts four camps in four regions. The first camp in the central region was held last month. The project maintains its objective to raise awareness of natural and environmental conservation. The distinctive idea this year is integrating the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy with the concept “Step Up for Conservation”, which represents an important step for the green-at-heart youths who are trained in the camp and ready to become a driving force for sustainable environmental conservation,” said Pranot Tirasai, PTTEP’s executive vice president of corporate affairs group.

The next camp will take place in the Northeastern region from October 9 to 11 and will take young participants to the Phu Foilom Ecological Tourism Project site in Nong Saeng district, Udon Thani province.
