Small footprint, big capabilities

AN AFFORDABLE high-quality S-LED printer with easy-to-set-up wireless printing function, the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CP115w is ideal both for home businesses and students.

A laser-like printer with good colour reproduction, the CP115w is compact and light measuring just 394x304x234mm and weighing only 10.9kgs.

The CP115w is powered by a 525 MHz processor and it features 1200x2400-dots-per-inch resolution. It has 128 megabytes of buffer memory for receiving and processing print files.

An LED printer uses technology to make office printers smaller, quieter, more reliable and less expensive than laser printers. The technology uses the same fundamental electrostatic method of applying toner to paper. But instead of the complex series of lenses, rotating mirrors and scanning system employed in laser printers, LED works by means of a straight array of diodes. 

Fuji Xerox has further improved the LED technology by using its own S-LED printhead. This contains an array of 10,240 light-emitting diodes, or LEDs whose miniaturised, self-scanning driving circuitry is partially located adjacent to each diode, with the remaining circuitry integrated into the ASIC driver chip, located on the LED bar itself.

Each S-LED printhead also features a new self-focusing lens array design. The array is configured in clusters of lens elements with uniform optical characteristics that systematically overlap to produce high-resolution imaging. The LEDs flash through this lens array to form latent images on the photo-receptive drum.

The CP115w supports wireless printing so it can place anywhere in the room rather than just next to the computer.

I had no problem linking it to my wireless network, simply pressing the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the printer and the WPS button behind my Linksys WRT 1200AC router.

I then installed the driver on the computer I wanted to print from using the network printer option and was able to run off colour prints with no further delay. 

The CP115w also supports Wi-Fi direct so you can print directly from an Android smartphone or tablet that supports the function. Mac users will be pleased to known that CP115w supports AirPrint technology too. You simply need to install Fuji Xerox Print Utility app and that lets you easily select print size to fit your type of print paper. The app lets you shoot a snapshot and print from your iOS device.

The CP115w is quite fast. It is capable of printing up to 12 black-and-white pages or 10 colour pages per minute. The speed is measured from the time the printer receives the file rather than from when you press the print button on your computer. The printer has the first page-out time of about 18 seconds and warm-up time of about 30 seconds so add an extra minute to the process to be on the safe side.

The CP115w has the input capacity of 150 sheets and supports manual duplex printing. This means you can print one-side papers and manually flip them for printing on the other side.

The CP115w supports Toner Save Mode and it uses EA-Econ toner technology to save ink. It uses four toners – C (cyan), M (magenta), Y (yellow) and black toners.

And it is easy to change the toners because they are conveniently located on the right side of the printer.

I found that the text printed by the CP115w looked laser sharp and the colours printed on plain paper clean and clear. 

Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CP115w has a suggested retail price of Bt5,590, VAT included. The black toner and each colour toner are priced at Bt1,977 each.
