The flight attendants with THAI Smile Airways have plenty to smile about this month as they don new uniforms by leading Thai designer Milin Yuvacharuskul of Milin.
The designer, who has built a reputation for refined fabrics, sharp lines and a sexy silhouette, has come up with seven looks that represent the airline’s slogan, “Trendy, Friendly, Worthy”.
“I invited the cabin crew to talk about what they need from a uniform, and also watched them at work so I could properly address any situations they might face. The designs have been modified several times, but as I was familiar with the airline, this was an easy process. In the end I designed seven looks – a dress shirt, skirt, pants, and jacket that can be mixed and matched. We also created a guide for bags, shoes, hair, and nails that will complement the overall style,” she says.
Each look is modern but unmistakably Thai. The fabric is stitched diagonally and the outfits boast traditional folds and pleated details on the neckline. These aspects add more dimension and give an overall gentle style.
The main colour is tangerine with the patterned section bearing a print reminiscent of the evening sky with purple, pink, and yellow, all corresponding to the colours of THAI Smile.
“I’ve always thought the sky is the most beautiful at dusk,” Milan says with a smile of her own.
