Bangkok's Art space Messy gets a look at the globe-trotting "Project 35 Volume 2"
MESSY SKY, the place for “alternative art” run by artists Chitti Kasemkitvatana and Pratchaya Phinthong with curator Mary Pansanga continues its engaging ways with the collaborative project “Cloud” and the video-art exhibition “Project 35 Volume 2”.
“Project 35” by New York’s Independent Curators International features videos selected by 35 curators, each nominating one “must-see” work for the world’s amusement or edification.
The collection already has toured much of the globe, but Mary says Bangkok is the first to see each programme screened every Saturday.
“Many of the works presented in this volume focus on memory and change, notions of place and identity, fiction and history, and performance and documentation,” she explains.
“Leitmotiv” (2011) by Brazilian artist Cinthia Marcelle utilises a single shot that brilliantly plays with the viewer’s preconceptions about sound and image.
“Diverse Estimations Little Moscow” (2011) by Asli Cavusoglu, shot in Fatsa, Turkey, features an impressive way of capturing and representing people’s memories.
Along with “Project 35 Volume 2”, there will also be a platform for discussion with art and film students, opening up a wider dialogue for international artistic practices.
Meanwhile, there’s the ongoing “Cloud”, a meeting platform for communication, education and open-ended dialogue.
“The use of physical units in the space provides a focal point in the adaptability of the use of the three storied building to create the circulation of information,” Mary says.

“Project 35 Volume 2” opened last Saturday. Scheduled screenings are from 7 to 9pm on September 20, September 27 and October 4. Videos are on demand in the archive room from Sunday to Friday until October 10.
