The mysterious Maison Martin Margiela brands creeps into Bangkok

Halfway between razzle-dazzle and stereotypical tailoring, Maison Martin Margiela’s spring and summer 2014 collection brings glitz and glamour to flirt with immaculate cuts and lines.
The brand, which was acquired from the Belgian designer after whom is it named by Diesel in 2002, recently opened its first store in Thailand at Central Embassy.
Sartorial obedience gives way to embellishment and play in the women’s collection, where a typical suit is belted with a bejewelled bustier or partnered with sequinned panties – at least on the catwalk – and ribbons, straps, ties, and martingales manipulate silhouettes. Inspired by the world of the circus, bibs are worn open, sleeves are added or removed like individual accessories. Free flowing dresses have an untamed allure and garments are loosened and unfastened.
Accessories include an oversized bracelet bag, rigid or rounded clutches, jewelled corsets secured with a ribbon, demi-point heels and everyday jewellery designed to expand with rings growing into necklaces.
The grand opening, on the theme “Iconic Art Exhibition”, and which reflect the brand’s preferred anonymity, was packed with fans of the fashion house.
