Miss Grand Thailand joins up with Buriram United football club for the 2014 pageant
Beauty pageant Miss Grand Thailand is back for its second year and this year it’s taking a different tack by celebrating sports and supporting local football club Buriram United.
Miss Grand Thailand 2013 Yada Thepanom along with her runner-ups Kanikar Phusee and Thanyaporn Srisen, Miss Intercontinental Thailand Kiratika Sawangchaeng and Miss Globe International Thailand, Sopapan Viroonmas introduced this year’s event in a recent press conference held at Centara Grand Hotel, CentralWorld. Actress Khemanit “Pancake” Jamikorn acted as the emcee.
“It’s kind of a reversal of the World Cup 2014 in Brazil,” laughed Nawat Itsaragrisil, the founder of this beauty contest, adding that he’d raised this year’s budget to Bt20 million.
“The theme is ‘Sport Pageant’ and the idea is to blend beauty with sport. It’s the perfect theme as sport is the only things that are making Thais happy in these days of tense political conflict.
“The contestants will wear swimsuits with a football theme and walk along a catwalk with a sports theme. We would like the Buriram United team to be on the same stage with the beauty contestants,” he adds.
Women from all over the country can apply for this beauty contest at Lotus Suite 7 on the 22nd floor of Centara Grand Hotel on April 26 from 8am to 6pm. Applicants must be between 17 to 26 years of age and up to 165 cm tall.
A hundred qualifiers will be selected at this round and whittled down to 50 selected on May 6. The ladies will then take part in activities with the football club from May 23 to 26. The final round on June 17 will be broadcast live on Channel 7.
The Miss Grand Thailand 2014 title winner receives Bt6 million in prizes including a house, a car and Bt1 million in cash and will also attend a 10-day preparation course in the Philippines before taking part in the international contest.
“The course will help our winner to learn everything from walking, seating, smiling, laughing to making up and doing her hair,” Nawat says.
