Fresh from Lenovo, this ThinkPad is a fast performer
Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 is a quite powerful tablet computer based on Microsoft Windows 8 Pro operating system. It is powered by Intel Atom Processor Z2760 dual-core 1.8 GHz processor and it is equipped with 2 gigabytes DDR2 RAM or working memory and 32 GB storage.
It uses 10.1-inch IPS LED-backlit display with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, which supports 5-finger multi-touch user-interface of Windows 8.
Tablet 2 is highly mobile with 9.8-mm thickness and 600 grams of weight as well as about 10 hours of battery life.
Tablet 2 comes with a digitizer pen for writing and precise drawing. It comes with Lenovo QuickSnip for using the pen to precisely crop pictures and it also comes with Evernote Skitch app for drawing and writing notes.
Tablet 2 supports 3G and 4G connection, using full-sized SIM. I tested it with TrueMove H’s 3G connection. The connection was fast. I watched online video clips, checked mails and browsed web pages and downloaded apps at fast speed.
It’s good that Tablet 2 comes with all necessary ports – a full-sized USB 2.0 port, a mini HDMI port, a microSD slot and a docking connector.
With the HDMI port, you can play HD movies from the tablet to be displayed on your large LCD TV.
The tablet had good performance during the test. HD video clips played smoothly. And the touch screen was very responsive. Scrolling of the screen was very fluid.
The tablet took only 11 seconds to start up and it took only about two seconds to shut down. It entered the sleep mode instantly when I ordered it and it exited sleep mode instantly as well when I pressed the Windows home button.
I used Windows 8’s internal benchmark tool to measure the performance of Tablet 2. The scores were not high because the benchmark took is normally used to measure the performance of desktop and notebook computers. But for a tablet, it is already impressive to get the scores achieved by Tablet 2.
It got 3.5 points for the processor’s performance of calculations per second and it scored 4.6 points for the performance of memory operations per second. Tablet 2 got 3.5 points for desktop graphics performance and 3.2 points for 3D business and gaming graphics performance. It got 5.6 points for the performance of disk data transfer rate.
