The perfect preppy
Royal Ivy Regatta showcases it autumn-winter collection with a bash at the Neilson-Hayes
American menswear brand, Royal Ivy Regatta, recently hosted a special event to introduce its Autumn/Winter 2013 collection to Bangkok’s men around town.
Inspired by the style and sensibility of American Ivy League students, the night was titled, “The Rendezvous” and featured both a fashion show and a party. The host, Kanachai “Kit” Bencharongkul, who’s representative of the preppy style for which the brand is famous, invited fashion icons and social luminaries to the reunion-themed bash at Neilson Hays Library.
The details evoked the exuberant and modish experience of the Ivy League life. The lush green lawn perfectly created a reminiscence of the university sports field and the nostalgic reunion was enriched by the living presence of true “school chums” including Songkran and Phupa Techanarong, Dan Hetrakul, Kamolsut Dabbaransi, Warit Hongsanan, Adit Phataraprasit, Sappasit Foongfaungchaveng, Sittichoke Plengpanich and Puri Hirunpruk. Apitsada Kruakongka and Patcharasri Benjamas were happy to serve as guest models.
The classic style of the collection, a combination of proper luxury and timeless appeal, references young men with privileged backgrounds who excel in both study and sports, from the uniforms of rugby players to boat races and the functional, yet immaculate outfits worn during school activities. The American preppy casual-wear was reinterpreted and executed through cutting, colour schemes, as well as embroidery details on key pieces such as polo shirts and button-town tops. Classic dress-shirt fabrics were combined with denim to reflect easy-going, sporty sensibility and a touch of vintage was discernible through the details on textile designs.
