It's not just long-time Carabao fans who are thrilled by Yuenyong "Ad Carabao" Opakul's announcement that a feature film is being made about the songs-for-life band.

The young generation is pretty thrilled about “Young Bao”, aka “Carabao the Movie”, too.

That’s because the stars of their own era will be portraying the band members in the movie being produced by Nonzee Nimibutr and directed by Yutthakorn “Joe” Sookhammooktapat.
Atiwara “Toon Bodyslam” Kongmalai will play his real-life Uncle Ad, Arak “Pe” Amornsupasiri will play Lek, Julachak “Hugo” Chakrabongse will be Thierry, Somchai “Tao” Kemklad is Pao, Pawarit “Bank” Mongkholpisit will be Kiew, Supakorn “Tok” Kitsuwan is taking on Thanis Sriklindee and Pitisak “Te” Yaowananon will play Aod.
It’s a movie about the lives of seven young men who love music and spend their lives together, blah blah blah, says Ad, “but it’s not totally based on the true story. I’d say it contains 60 per cent of the truth.”
Sounds like they’re going to leave a lot of the fun stuff out, but at least Toon is tickled that Na Ad asked him to play him on the big screen. “It’s such an honour,” Toon said of a project that will bring him face to face with Pe for the first time. Toon’s girlfriend Ratchawin “Goi” wongviriya is Pe’s ex-girlfriend. Should be good!
Toon seems more worried about thespian matters. “I have no acting skills, so I’m kind of running after the others.” Goi’s talked him into taking an acting course. Evidently she doesn’t find him convincing either.
Pe and Hugo are fretting that they’ll compare unfavourably to the musicians they’re portraying. Hugo points out that Thierry is more handsome and lighter-skinned than he is and has a better voice. Pe says Lek is far more relaxed than he is and, quite frankly, far more talented.
It’s not surprising that the young cast is feeling unworthy of the generation that came before. Gen X was always in the shadow. We’ll see how they do when the film comes out next March.
