Based on a reality-TV talent contest from the Netherlands, the Thai version of “The Voice” is forecast to become a big hit when it airs on Channel 3 soon, following popular versions in 40 countries including America, England, India and South Korea.
The international series, franchised by True Music in cooperation with Toh Klom, was launched last month at a CentralWorld press conference under the concept of “pid ta perd jai chai hoo” – close your eyes, open your mind and listen.
After giving us a preview of the show, DJ Charoen Saejoo stepped up as MC and invited True Music’s managing director Ardkij Sunthornwat and the series’ producer Theerawat Anuwatudom to talk about how they had captured “the world’s hottest singing competition” and to explain the format to a crowd that included media and the show’s six supporters – Toyota, CP, Coca-Cola, Honda, Krungsri Bank and True Move H.
The series will put contestants through three rounds: a blind audition, a battle phase, and live performances overseen by four expert judges/coaches. The judging quartet was announced as Jennifer Kim, Saharat “Kong” Sangkhapreecha, Joey Boy and Apiwat “Stamp” Euathavornsuk.
Each coach will be given one minute in the auditions to select each contestant to be on his or her team. In the battle phase, the coaches will judge a head-to-head battle between two of their team members singing the same song together.
The final phase will see the successful contestants competing against each other in live broadcasts for the votes of viewers and judges that will decide the ultimate winner.
As its name suggests, the contest will focus on the voice rather than the looks of contestants, who will range in age from 16 to 60.
