Chanettee emerges second female Thailand Mixed champ with win at Springfield
Rising star Chanettee Wannasaen became the second female winner in the Thailand Mixed hosted by TrustGolf following a stroke victory over former LPGA player Pavarisa Yoktuan at the Springfield Royal Country Club in Cha-Am on Sunday.
The precocious teenager carded a final round 71 and a total 18 under-par 270 to win the Bt3 million tournament and emerged as the second woman to win on the Thailand TrustGolf Tour after Arpichaya Yubol in the inaugural Thailand Mixed at the Black Mountain Golf Club in February last year.
“I’m quite happy to win this tournament although I didn’t play the way I would have wanted to. I was inconsistent all day and made only a few putts. The pin positions and the greens are tough today,” said the 17-year-old girl who clawed her way back from the hazard to finish with a par putt on the 18th hole.
This is Channettee’s second career title after she won her maiden in the SAT-TWT Open at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club last November. Last month she earned her slot into the Thailand LPGA (due in March in Pattaya) after winning the National Qualifiers event for the second consecutive year.
“I want to have a better finish than last year (tied 57th) in the home LPGA. For my big goal this season, I want to gain a slot on the LPGA through the Q-School later his year,” said the teenager who won the winner’s prize money of Bt450,000 plus a scholarship to pursue a degree in golf at Rangsit University.
For the first time, the top three positions were dominated by the women with Pavarisa coming at second , followed by Trichat Cheenglab.
Pavarisa, 27-year-old from Nakhon Si Thammarat, shot six birdies against three bogeys to finish with a 69 and a four-day total of 17 under-par-271. She settled at lone second which was her best finish in the Thailand Mixed. Besides, she would return home Bt300,000 richer from the runner-up’s prize money.
Trichat, who won at this course on the Thai LPGA Tour event last October, rounded up the top three by hitting a final 71 and a total 272. She won Bt180,000 for third place.
Chiang Mai-based Thaya Limpipolpaibul followed a shot behind at lone fourth which was the best position by the men. He signed off with a 71 for a total 273. This is, however, his best career result in a four-day tournament.
Siripob Yabala won the male amateur award following a 274 which placed at joint fifth alongside Waris Manthorn, Dussavi Soopimjit and former champion Arpichaya. Pimmada Wongthanavimok won the best female amateur after she shot a total 287.
