Your edition of November 24-25 carried a front-page article about the likely legalisation of same-sex marriages in Thailand in the near future. The article was accompanied by a map of the world, showing countries which have already made these unions legal.
The map, unfortunately, had a significant error: Ireland was depicted as the only country in Western Europe where this – supposedly – has yet to happen.
Please allow me to set the record straight!
In fact, same-sex marriage in the Republic of Ireland has been legal since November 2015, when Ireland voted by a huge majority (62 per cent) to legalise such unions.
This made Ireland the first country in the world to do so by popular vote.
